Favorite Girlfriend Getaways
You and I both know this list could go on forever. And it’s not usually about the location but rather the company. So, assuming the company you keep is fabulous – I’ll share some of my favorite spots to run away to with my girlfriends –
If you are girls that just wanna have fun, I guarantee Key West is a winner!
Part of the fun of going to Key West is getting to Key West. Regardless of where you travel from there is only one way to get there by car and traveling down A1A is part of the adventure. If you’re flying into Miami do your best to rent a convertible for the drive down. It means you’ll have to pack light, but it’s worth it.
Along the way be sure to stop off in Key Largo and visit the African Queen. It’s the original boat from the movie. You can pretend your Katherine Hepburn.
Next stop, just in time for a refreshment break is Holiday Isle’s world famous Tiki Bar located on Islamorada.
A big question when planning your trip to Key West is lodging. You have a lot of choices but I highly recommend a bed and breakfast. This town is loaded with B&B’s and they understand their clientèle, so no need to worry you’ll end up in some stuffy, hush hush B&B. These are a great choice for a girlfriend group because you’ll have common areas where you can hang out, and you’ll have your own rooms. My favorite is the Tropical Inn. It’s located right on Duval Street just a couple blocks down from the best bars and restaurants on the island. The grounds are a peaceful escape from the party. You can float in the ultra lush tropical pool and enjoy happy hour in the shady gardens.
Nightlife – or day life is one thing that you will never have to look far for in Key West. From noon on you can always find a happening spot. Key West is about the party so bring your big girl shoes ’cause you’ll need ’em.
Get off the beaten path and check out some of the great spots that attract locals. The people living and working in Key West know where the real action is. One of my favorites is the Green Parrot. Check it out.
What made Key West a great girlfriend destination?
- Fun bars, dancing, live music, great outdoor hot spots
- Cool accommodations
- Sunset at Mallory Square
- People from around the world
- Laid back island atmosphere
- Snorkeling trip
- Sunset sail
- Great roadtrip
4 – Expect to pay about $150-$200/night per person plus travel depending upon where you travel from and how many girls in your party. This is based on two people sharing a room at a B&B. Time of year will also impact the lodging expense. You’ll save money by taking advantage of the breakfast at your B&B. We also picked up some wine and liquor to have on had by the pool and for happy hour. For our group, going out at night was definitely the biggest expense. You can find very reasonable eats, but your bar tab can add up. Especially on a hot day. So, plan accordingly. And have fun!
